CHAPTER 11

“Brother, you were right,” Cade boasted and clapped Cayan on his shoulder. “She accepted the truth about me and who I am. Who we are.”

“I told you,” Cayan grinned. “So is she your mate?”

“Umm,” Cade rubbed the back of his neck. “We haven’t quite discussed that yet.”

“Which part?” his brother asked. “The part where she’ll be forever bonded to you or the part where being your mate will make her immortal with you?”

“Both, maybe?” he answered as a question. “How the hell do you even approach that topic to someone who’s not a shifter?” He groaned and flopped onto the couch. “Things are so much easier when dragons mate dragons.”

“Tell that to angels.”

The familiar voice of Cassiel sounded and Cade stood from this seat. He smiled and offered his hand to the angel of solitude.

Cassiel was a large man, thick arms and his wings massive. His hair was cut short and he had scruff on his face regardless the time of day. Women tended to fawn over the angel and would offer him sexual advances.

More often than not, he would turn them down, but he would occasionally take someone up on their offer.

“I may be an angel, but I’m also a man,” he once reminded them. “I enjoy sex as much as the next person. Maybe more so.”

“What brings you by, old friend?” Cayan crossed the room and pulled the angel into a hug.

“I’m here to give a right of passage,” he said dryly. “Why else would I be here? I’m checking in on Cade. You doing all right since the fight with the other pack?”

Cade nodded. “Good as new. I even had sex last night.”

Cassiel chuckled. “Yeah, good as new. Who’s the unlucky lady?”

“Yeah, you can fuck right off with that,” Cade shoved his shoulder.

“He’s found his fated mate,” Cayan announced.

“I thought I heard that mentioned the day I healed you. I wasn’t sure the forever bachelor actually cut his nuts off to be with a woman. Wow, we should mark this day down.”

Cade shook his head. “Are you done?”

“Not yet. I’m sure I’ll come up with a few more quips.”

“Her name is Annabelle Clayton. She’s beautiful, human, and just perfection.”

Cassiel was quiet for a moment and his brows furrowed. “Annabelle Clayton you said?”

Cade nodded. “Yes, why? Do you know her, or know of her?”

“Long story for another day,” Cassiel answered. “It’s nothing serious, and I’m happy you’ve found your mate in her. She’s a great match for you.”

“Match?” Cade asked. “Hey, if there’s something I need to know about her, please, tell me.”

“Do you have news?” Cayan asked, changing the subject.

Cassiel cleared his throat, giving an obvious nod of thanks.

Cade rolled his eyes and took a seat back on the sofa. He’d hear whatever Cassiel had to say, then get him to talk about Annabelle.

How could his mate know this angel, or the other way around?

He was a fucking angel.

Then again, angels know a lot of people… Well, know of the people, anyway.

“The rival pack is still making a charge for the land.
